How to Determine Your Skin Type before Choosing a Skin Care Routine

While choosing the perfect skincare routine for your skin, the first and foremost thing that you need to know your skin type and how it adapts to individual circumstances and climatic conditions. Every person has a different skin type and requires different kinds of nourishment accordingly. The various types of skin include – oily, dry, sensitive and mixed or combination skin type. 

Skin is your largest body organ, and just like your other organs, they need proper care and nourishment. It would help if you learned the specific needs of your skin to choose the right products that will result in a healthy and radiant complexion of your skin.

Knowing Your Skin Type

To know which type of skin you have you can do a small test yourself by following these steps –

STEP 1 – Wash your face with soap or face wash and clean water and pat dry.
STEP 2 – Wait for about 30 minutes and observe your skin closely.

1. Dry Skin

If your skin feels tight and rough while you smile or give any facial expression, your skin type is dry.

2. Combination or Mixed Skin

If you see a noticeable shine around your nose and forehead, then you have a combination or mixed type of skin.

3. Oily Skin

If there is a shine on your cheeks, nose, under eyes and it feels like buttery on touch, then you have an oily skin type.

Skin Care Routines for Different Types of Skin

It’s very important to choose the right skin care routine for glowing skin according to your skin type.

  • For dry skin drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or caffeine consumption. Use a moisturizer that contains glycerin so that the water can be absorbed by the skin directly.
  • For combination or mixed skin, you can use gentle moisturizers with a gel-like texture so that it doesn’t break out and gets absorbed quickly.
  • For oily skin type, you should use a different skin care routine for oily skin. You can use a physical exfoliator such as crushed seeds which balances the tone and texture of the skin.
