How to Sanitize and Disinfect Your Home to Fight against Covid-19?
As you all know, the whole world is fighting with Covid-19. On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Covid-19 outbreak as a global health emergency. More than lakh cases are getting reported across the globe daily.
While going out, we have to practice social distancing, wear mask and sanitize our hands to ensure the safety of ourselves and our family members. While going back to our home, we need to make sure that we are not carrying harmful germs or viruses with us.
According to research, the virus can stay on the surface for hours and even for some days. So the big question arises in mind that, how to sanitize home.
Let’s Start Sanitizing Home
Here are the few steps you should follow to keep your home safe from the Covid-19 virus.
1. Target high-touch surface
Many places or things in our house are exposed to viruses or germs because of their regular use. Like Doorknobs, T.V Remote, Light Switches, Mobile Phone, Mobile Charger, Laptop, Computer Systems, Keyboards, House keys, Dining Chairs, etc. As every home is different, you need to find out these high touch surfaces and sanitize them properly.
2. Use of disinfectant wipes and sprays
After finding out high touch or sensitive surfaces of your home, now you should use disinfectant wipes to keep the germs away. You can use Clorox wipes, Lysol wipes, purell wipes or other good quality disinfect wipes available to sanitize those sensitive areas. You need to clean these areas for at least 3-4 times a day, especially doorknobs and keys. Disinfectant sprays can be used to sanitize the couch, chairs, and carpets of your home. If the surface is dirty, you should first clean it with a cloth or soap water before using wipes or sprays.
3. Use bleach to clean floors
As you go out, there is a risk of germs getting stuck to your footwear and entering your house. So it is necessary to disinfect home. You can use bleach to clean the floor. Use 1/3 of the bleach with 1 gallon of water. While using the bleach, it is advised should wear gloves and keep the windows of your house open for proper ventilation.
4. Use of hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide can be used to clean surfaces like the kitchen sink, washbasin, toilets. You can directly pour it on the surface and leave it to soak for 15 minutes. Then scrub the area and rinse it with water. According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Hydrogen Peroxide can remove rhinovirus within eight minutes.
Sanitizing your Kitchen
Sanitizing your kitchen is essential because it’s a highly sensitive place. As groceries come from outside may have harmful germs with them. So it is advisable to buy your groceries from a clean and sanitized store. You should avoid carrying grocery bags in your house. You should clean your kitchen slab and sink regularly with disinfectants.
Sanitizing your Laundry
As soon as you enter your house, immediately put that pair of clothes for a wash. You should always wear gloves while collecting clothes to wash. Wash your laundry with lukewarm water and use a good quality washing detergent. Also, before using run your machine empty by adding hot water and disinfectant to prevent the growth of germs.
Sanitizing your Devices
As you know that we all use our mobile phone, Laptop, Computer system during this pandemic situation. Most of the companies are asking to work from home. So the use of these smart devices is increasing day by day. Sanitizing all these devices is very important. You can use disinfectant wipes to clean them regularly.
Cleaning your Vehicle
While you go out, not only you, your car is getting exposed to viruses and germs. So sanitizing your car becomes necessary. The car handles, Steering, Gear shifts, Car keys, seats every corner of your car needs to get properly sanitized. Disinfectant wipes can be used to clean most of the surfaces.
